Drawing Competion

In our childhood, the education life started with the introduction of letters and simple reading. Two more teachers were buried in the pages of the book without being in front of the eyes. Real, alive and unmistakable.
Through drawing, the horizons of knowing the taste, choice and nature of the mind consciously affect the child’s mind. Hands’ work is to develop this child’s mind properly through various social service works. One such effort was highlighted last Sunday (25/02/2024) through drawing. .A sitting drawing competition was organized under the management of HANDS in collaboration with Sangh Mitra Club of Bhavanipur. Like every time we had Mr. Shyamal Das and Mr. Mithun Majhi as the judges. With their presence and the help of the organization’s volunteers, the atmosphere of drawing became festive. Mrs. Papia Singh Mahashya, Mayor of Ward No. 71, was present in the prize distribution ceremony. Mrs. Soma Pal, Shri Debashish Bose, Shrimati Soma Sarkar, Shri Somnath Nandi, and Debashish Da have extended their support to conduct the competition in a healthy manner. Child Healthcare

Our main focus is to improve and ensure access to quality healthcare services for unprivileged people especially street children and slum dwellers. We always try to identify the root causes of healthcare challenges and help implement quality healthcare services by arranging campaigns to raise awareness about various illnesses, vaccination, medications, etc. We also help them with free health checkups, and tests, and also with possible financial support from our end to meet their necessity to stay healthy and live a disease-free life.

Health Camp

Health is the wealth of human life. Good health is a precious gift for us. But people of the backward section are mostly seen as lacking their basic healthcare needs as they do not have enough access to get treated with good medication. So, we try to organize medical camps to spread awareness of health and health-related issues among the common people by promoting the importance of maintaining hygiene, and healthy habits to remain free from illnesses and provide them with general healthcare facilities like health checkups and tests free of cost. We conducted a thalassemia carrier detection camp for unmarried youth on 9th November 2019 to make them aware of thalassemia and help its sufferer with a little and possible contribution to them to help them get better medications and consultations.

Child Education

Ensuring access to quality education remains one of our main objectives. Our interventions focus on the unprivileged street children who have no access to the world of education. We see education as the imperative tool for them to understand their maximum potential to become the changemaker of their future. So, we have taken the pledge to serve them with free educational support to make them involved in the course of education and be able to build a prestigious career in the future.

Environmental awareness

HANDS has commenced to conserve and protect Mother Nature and the environment. Today the necessity of environmental awareness and enforcement is more demanding and urgent than ever before. Our intervention is to raise awareness among the general public to educate and make them understand the importance of saving our environment from the endangered situation that is being caused by global warming, pollution, usage of plastic products, etc. We keep conducting numerous campaigning programs to make them aware of the protection of our surroundings and the importance of the role of trees in it. We also drive tree plantation programs in different areas of our district and beyond.

Cleanness and beautification of areas

Driving cleanliness programs remains one of our noble initiatives toward making our environment cleaner, safer, and more beautiful. We try to keep regular campaigning programs to clean our surroundings, roads, and various infrastructure and beautify them with saplings. Through these programs, HANDS has a target to plant 1000 saplings for the beautification of the city and also works to make the general public aware of the importance of keeping clean our village, city, and state towards the goal of making India clean.

Tree plantation program

Our organization is dedicated to promoting the protection and conservation of our environment through tree plantation programs. Trees play a crucial role in protecting our nature as it provides us with fresh air and oxygen without which the existence of life on this planet becomes impossible. It also helps fight the issues of drought, flood, and other natural calamities by making balance in the ecological system. But deforestation and urbanization in Kolkata have led to the destruction of greeneries and made encountered the dreadful situation caused by pollution. Addressing these issues HANDS has taken the initiative to drive a sound number of tree plantation programs in Kolkata including other districts wherever we felt the necessity to arrange the program and also distribute saplings and baby plants among the local people to make them join our mission to create a sustainable world and protect the green.

Food Distribution

Food is one of the basic needs and rights for a human to live a quality life. We believe that all people should have the right to get fed. In the remote areas of Kolkata slums, most of the unprivileged people are struggling to earn their daily meals and as a result, they are lacking daily needed nutrients for their bodies. Taking notice of this, HANDS arranges sufficient dry or cooked meals and distributes them among needy people. Even during the covid era, we also conducted food distribution programs around the society of underprivileged people of Kolkata.

Clothes Distribution

Clothes are one of the basic human needs and rights for livelihood. But people of underprivileged sections lack adequate clothing and struggle to survive without clothes. Even in the season of chilling winter poor people living on the footpath, on railway platforms, and in slum areas are seen helplessly struggling for getting warm. HANDS sympathizes with them and arranges some warm clothes and blankets and distributes them among them. To date, we have reached out to a sound number of helpless people with these most needed things to survive in winter. We feel pleased to see them happy to have them and serve them in their needs.

Animal Welfare

We are a non-profit trust concerned and determined to help the most vulnerable part of our society- the voiceless animals like birds, dogs, cows, etc. We offer our support to them by feeding them and ensuring shelter for them. We also work to rescue these innocent lives and take care of the sick by providing them with needed medications. During the miserable phases of lockdown due to covid, when even common people were struggling to earn their daily bread, animals were left unfed and abandoned. We felt a huge urgency to think about them and regarding this, we have worked to help the horses living around the streets of Kolkata by serving them food, pure water, and other needfuls. We also have worked to help sick birds and street dogs by providing them with the needed treatments and medications possible for us. Since we want to work to reach more of them, we urge you to support us with your little contribution to give them some comfort and opportunity to live a quality life.
